DR. AKABUIKE CELEBRATES EXCELLENCE AND ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITY AT COOU MEDICAL INDUCTION The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, Hon. Dr. Joe Akabuike, joined the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Omenugha, the Provost of the College of Medicine, Prof. Lawrence Ikeakor, and other distinguished members of the academic community at the induction ceremony of the 2025 cohort of medical graduands on Tuesday, 18th November 2025. Held at the Histopathology Auditorium of COOUTH, the ceremony showcased the university’s unwavering commitment to producing competent medical professionals and strengthening the healthcare system in Anambra State. As the Special Guest, Dr. Akabuike commended the university for upholding high standards in medical education. He extended warm congratulations to the Deputy CMAC, Dr. Ifeoma Njelita, whose daughter, Dr. Chioma Njelita, emerged as the Best Graduating Student. Dr. Akabuike described her outstanding performance as the result of dedication, disciplined mentorship, and the strong academic culture fostered under the leadership of Prof. Ikeakor and the College of Medicine. He encouraged other students to be inspired by this accomplishment, reminding them that excellence in the medical profession is achieved through consistency, humility, and a commitment to lifelong learning. In his remarks, Dr. Akabuike emphasized the profound importance of the induction ceremony. Beyond the formal certification as medical doctors, he stressed that the ceremony marks a solemn transition into a profession anchored on conscience and ethical responsibility. He urged the inductees to take the Oath of Practice seriously, as it guides their decisions and protects the dignity of human life. Without the right conscience, he cautioned, the practice of medicine risks nurturing avoidable disaster.
