COOUTH CMD RECEIVES NIGERIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, ANAMBRA STATE CHAPTER, ON COURTESY VISIT The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, on Wednesday, 24th June, 2026, received a delegation of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Anambra State Chapter, led by its Chairman, Dr. Obiegbu, on a courtesy visit to her office. The visit provided an opportunity for the association to congratulate the CMD on her appointment and identify with her as a distinguished member of the medical profession and the association. Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the association introduced members of the delegation and commended Dr. Umeakuewulu for her remarkable contributions to the medical profession over the years. In recognition of her outstanding achievements, dedication to healthcare service, and exemplary leadership, the association presented her with a letter, as one of the Award nominees in their upcoming AGM.The delegation also informed the CMD of the association's ongoing fundraising initiative and appealed for support through goodwill messages, advertisements, and other contributions towards the success of the programme. Responding, Dr. Umeakuewulu expressed profound appreciation to the leadership and members of the Nigerian Medical Association for the honour accorded her and for finding time amidst their demanding schedules to visit and celebrate with her. She particularly thanked the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, the Oluatuegwu of Anambra, for giving her the opportunity to serve the state in such a strategic capacity, describing the appointment as a homecoming after years of professional service in different parts of the country. The CMD also commended her management team for their unwavering commitment, dedication, and support in driving the hospital's transformation agenda. Dr. Umeakuewulu reiterated that the vision of her administration is to reposition COOUTH as a world-class teaching hospital renowned for excellence in healthcare delivery, medical education, and research. She highlighted several transformative initiatives already underway, including the digitalization of hospital operations, infrastructure upgrades, refurbishment of critical units, procurement of modern medical equipment, and the introduction of innovative patient-centred services aimed at improving healthcare outcomes. She emphasized that these reforms are geared towards enhancing efficiency, improving patient experience, and elevating the institution to international standards. The CMD further called for stronger collaboration between COOUTH and professional medical bodies, particularly the Nigerian Medical Association, noting that strategic partnerships are essential for achieving sustainable growth and excellence in healthcare delivery. She assured the delegation that their request for support towards the fundraising initiative would receive due consideration and promised to communicate the hospital's position at the appropriate time. The Chief Medical Director received the delegation in the company of members of her management team, including the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Nnaemeka Umedum; Head of Accounts, Mr. Wilson Ezeilo; Head of Administration, Mrs. Chioma Ibekie; Public Relations Officer, Agbai Henrietta N; Head of Internal Audit, Mrs. Uju Ejiofor, and other senior staff of the hospital.
