COOUTH CMD RECEIVES JNC INTERNATIONAL DELEGATION ON COURTESY VISIT The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, on Wednesday, 24th June, 2026, received the Managing Director of JNC International, Mrs. Claire Omasheye, and her team on a courtesy visit to her office. The visit was aimed at congratulating the CMD on her appointment and exploring opportunities for strategic partnership between COOUTH and JNC International in the areas of healthcare infrastructure, medical equipment, capacity building, and specialized medical services. Speaking during the visit, the Managing Director of JNC International congratulated Dr. Umeakuewulu on her historic appointment as the first female Chief Medical Director of the institution. She emphasized the importance of gender equality and inclusiveness in leadership and governance, describing the CMD's appointment as a significant milestone. Mrs. Omasheye introduced members of her team and disclosed that JNC International represents over thirty reputable companies involved in the provision of state-of-the-art medical equipment and healthcare solutions. According to her, the company has extensive experience in supplying and supporting modern equipment for theatres, radiology, radiography, laparoscopic surgery, and other specialized medical services. She further highlighted several successful partnerships the company has facilitated over the years and expressed optimism about establishing a mutually beneficial relationship with COOUTH. In her response, Dr. Umeakuewulu warmly welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of the hospital's operations and strategic importance within the healthcare system of Anambra State and the South-East region. She noted that COOUTH remains the only state-owned tertiary healthcare institution in Anambra State and the only hospital in the South-East with a dedicated Trauma Centre. The CMD further highlighted the hospital's strengths, including its well-equipped Radiology Department, advanced Molecular Laboratory, and growing reputation in medical research, innovation, and community medicine. She explained that the Molecular Laboratory provides opportunities for cutting-edge research and diagnostic advancements, while the institution's outreach is further strengthened through its affiliated satellite hospitals located at Amawbia, Agulu, and Ezinifite. The Managing Director of JNC International subsequently outlined several areas in which the company is willing to partner with the hospital. These include In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) services, open-heart surgery, laparoscopic surgery, cardiology, invasive and non-invasive procedures, as well as other specialized medical interventions. She also emphasized the company's commitment to capacity building through staff training and retraining programmes, technical support services, equipment maintenance, and comprehensive after-sales services aimed at ensuring the sustainability and optimal utilization of medical equipment. Dr. Umeakuewulu expressed appreciation to the delegation for considering COOUTH as a potential partner and commended their commitment to advancing healthcare delivery. She reiterated her administration's vision of transforming the institution into a world-class teaching hospital through strategic collaborations, innovation, and investment in modern healthcare technologies. The CMD thanked the team for the visit, conducted them on a tour of key hospital facilities, and assured them that further engagements would be held to explore areas of collaboration and partnership for the benefit of patients, staff, and the wider healthcare community. The Chief Medical Director received the JNC International delegation in the company of members of her management team, including the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Nnaemeka Umedum; Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Ifeoma Njelita; Head of Accounts, Mr. Wilson Ezeilo; Head of Administration, Mrs. Chioma Ibekie; Head of Internal Audit, Mrs. Uju Ejiofor; Public Relations Officer, Agbai Henrietta N.; and other senior staff of the hospital.
