COOUTH CMD REUNITES WITH LORETTO OLD GIRLS CLASS OF 1992 DURING COURTESY VISIT The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, on Thursday, 18th June, 2026, reunited with delegates of the Loretto Old Girls Class of 1992 during a courtesy visit to her office. The delegation, led by the President of the association, Prof Pauline Umenne, visited to congratulate the CMD on her appointment and identify with her as she assumes the responsibility of leading the institution. The visit also provided an opportunity to rekindle old friendships and strengthen the enduring bond between Dr. Umeakuewulu and her former classmates. A memorable moment of the visit was the introduction of delegates, during which the CMD fondly attempted to recall classmates she had not seen for over three decades. Speaking on behalf of the association, the President thanked God for the CMD's appointment and prayed for divine wisdom, guidance, and strength as she embarks on the task of repositioning COOUTH for global recognition and excellence. Other delegates, comprising accomplished professionals who have distinguished themselves in various fields, also took turns to speak. They expressed confidence in Dr. Umeakuewulu's leadership abilities and assured her of their unwavering support, encouragement, and partnership throughout her administration. Responding, a visibly delighted and emotional Dr. Umeakuewulu thanked her classmates for finding time to celebrate with her and share in her joy. She prayed for God's continued blessings and upliftment upon all members of the association in their various professions and endeavours. The CMD disclosed that her administration commenced work almost immediately upon assumption of office, particularly in the area of digitalizing the hospital's operations, a process she revealed is about 98 percent completed and will soon become fully operational. She further highlighted ongoing infrastructural and service delivery improvements within the hospital, including the creation of private all-inclusive wards, the gradual elimination of oxygen cylinders in wards through modern oxygen supply systems, and other initiatives aimed at bringing the institution to world-class standards. Dr. Umeakuewulu also called on well-meaning individuals, corporate bodies, and development partners to collaborate with the hospital in its transformation agenda, emphasizing that achieving global standards in healthcare delivery requires collective effort and strategic partnerships. She reiterated her commitment to ensuring that COOUTH becomes a centre of excellence in healthcare, medical education, and research. The CMD received the Loretto Old Girls Class of 1992 in the company of members of her management team, including the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Ifeoma Njelita; Head of Accounts, Mr. Wilson Ezeilo; Head of Nursing Services, Mrs. Angela Nebo; Head of Administration, Mrs. Chioma Ibekie; Public Relations Officer, Agbai Henrietta N.; Head of Internal Audit, Mrs. Uju Ejiofor ,and other senior staff of the hospital.
