COOUTH CMD RECEIVES LEADERSHIP OF IGBO-UKWU DEVELOPMENT UNION, AWKA BRANCH, ON COURTESY VISIT. The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, on Thursday, 18th June, 2026, received the executive members of the Igbo-Ukwu Development Union (IDU), Awka Branch, led by their President, Prof. Innocent Igwilo on a courtesy visit to her office. The visit provided an opportunity for the union to identify with their illustrious daughter and congratulate her on her appointment as the Chief Medical Director of COOUTH. Speaking during the visit, the delegation expressed gratitude to God for granting her the opportunity to serve the state in such a strategic capacity. They pledged their unwavering support, cooperation, and grassroots backing to her administration and prayed for divine wisdom, strength, and success throughout her tenure. Members of the executive also offered valuable professional and fraternal advice, encouraging the CMD to remain steadfast, focused, and inclusive in her leadership style. They expressed confidence that the wealth of experience, knowledge, and expertise she acquired during her years of service both within and outside the state would serve as a strong foundation for the transformation of the institution. On behalf of the Igbo-Ukwu Development Union, the delegation presented Dr. Umeakuewulu with an Award in recognition of her outstanding achievements and service to humanity. Responding, Dr. Umeakuewulu expressed profound joy and appreciation for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of genuine love, solidarity, and kinship. She thanked the leadership and members of the union for finding her worthy of such honour and support at a crucial moment in her career. According to her, the appointment represents a homecoming, considering her years of service in various capacities outside her immediate community and state. She also expressed gratitude to the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, the Oluatuegwu of Anambra, for entrusting her with the responsibility of leading the state's foremost tertiary healthcare institution. The CMD further highlighted some of the strategic steps already taken by her administration towards repositioning COOUTH to meet world-class standards in healthcare delivery. She disclosed that significant progress had been made in critical areas, noting that many of the transformation initiatives were already nearing completion. She revealed that essential medical equipment and machines were being procured and delivered to strengthen service delivery across the hospital. Dr. Umeakuewulu also emphasized the need for public-private partnerships, stressing that the task of transforming the institution should not be left to the government alone. She called on individuals, groups, and development-oriented organizations to partner with the hospital in advancing the Solution Agenda of the Soludo administration. She commended members of the hospital management and staff for their dedication, commitment, and tireless support, noting that the achievements recorded so far were products of collective effort and teamwork. According to her, with continued cooperation from stakeholders, COOUTH would emerge as a model healthcare institution in Nigeria and beyond. The CMD received the delegation in the company of members of her management team, including the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Ifeoma Njelita; Head of Accounts, Mr. Wilson Ezeilo; Head of Nursing Services, Mrs. Angela Nebo; Head of Administration, Mrs. Chioma Ibekie; Public Relations Officer, Agbai Henrietta N., Head of Internal Audit, Mrs. Uju Ejiofor, and other senior staff of the hospital.
