DR. UMEAKUEWULU PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO NSCDC COMMANDANT, SEEKS STRONGER SECURITY PARTNERSHIP The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, on Monday, 11th May 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, Commandant Maku Olatunde, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Teaching Hospital and security agencies in the state. The CMD was accompanied by members of her management team, including the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (DCMAC), Dr. Ifeoma Njelita; Head of Administration, Mrs. Chioma Ibekie; Public Relations Officer, Agbai Henrietta; and Head of Internal Audit, Mrs. Uju Ejiofor, among others. Dr. Umeakuewulu appreciated the Commandant for granting the opportunity for the visit and also expressed gratitude to the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, for the opportunity to return home and contribute meaningfully to the healthcare development of the state after many years of medical practice outside Anambra. She further commended the Governor’s efforts in strengthening security across the state and appreciated the military and paramilitary agencies for their sacrifices and commitment toward maintaining peace and safety in Anambra State. The CMD stated that her mission was to further strengthen the partnership between COOUTH and the NSCDC in order to promote a safer healthcare environment, foster collaboration, and consolidate the long-standing relationship between both institutions. According to her, effective healthcare delivery thrives better in a peaceful and secure environment. The visit also provided an opportunity for discussions on critical security concerns affecting the hospital community and possible strategies for improved cooperation between both institutions in ensuring safety, protection of lives and property, and efficient service delivery within the hospital environment. In his response, the State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde, congratulated Dr. Umeakuewulu on her appointment as Chief Medical Director and appreciated the efforts of the Governor of Anambra State toward improving security in the state. He assured the CMD of the willingness of the NSCDC to partner with the hospital, especially in view of strengthening existing structures and ensuring improved safety within the healthcare environment. He described the hospital as a critical institution in the security architecture of the state and promised the collaborative support of his agency toward protecting lives and property within the facility. The Commandant further presented a plaque of welcome to the CMD as a symbol of goodwill and partnership between the NSCDC and COOUTH.
