DR. UMEAKUEWULU RECEIVES MHWUN, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO STAFF WELFARE AND COLLABORATION The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, on Friday, 24th April 2026, received members of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) on a courtesy visit to her office. The delegation, led by the Chairman, Juaese Lawrence, stated that their visit was to welcome and familiarise with the CMD, as well as to formally make known their presence and role within the hospital. They expressed confidence in her leadership and presented some of the challenges facing their members, while reaffirming their support for her vision of transforming the hospital into a centre of medical excellence. As a mark of goodwill, they presented her with a portrait of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In her response, Dr. Umeakuewulu warmly welcomed the delegation and appreciated their visit and thoughtful gift. She reiterated her strong commitment to staff welfare, describing it as the bedrock of medical excellence. The CMD assured them that many of the concerns raised were already being addressed, noting that plans had been set in motion even prior to the visit to tackle existing challenges within the system. Dr. Umeakuewulu further emphasized that with the vision and support of the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, the Teaching Hospital is steadily on the path of growth and transformation. She called for sustained collaboration among all unions and stakeholders in the hospital, stressing that collective effort is key to achieving the goal of making COOUTH a global centre of medical excellence. Other members of the management team present during the visit included the Head of Administration, Mrs. Chioma Ibekie, and the Head of Accounts, Mr. Wilson Ezeilo, among others.
