DR. UMEAKUEWULU COMMENDS PHARMACY DEPARTMENT OF COOUTH FOR WORLD MALARIA DAY AWARENESS The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, on Friday, 24th April 2026, received members of the Pharmacy Department who marked World malaria Day with impactful activities within the hospital. The team, led by the Head of Department, Pharm. Nkem Obiano, organised a health talk show at the General Out-Patient Department (GOPD) and Special Out-Patient Department (SOPD), where they enlightened patients on malaria, its causes, symptoms, and preventive measures. They also distributed free antimalarial drugs to patients as part of their outreach. During their courtesy visit to the CMD, the pharmacy team highlighted the importance of continuous patient education and preventive healthcare in tackling malaria, especially in a region where the disease remains prevalent. The free drugs distributed during the exercise were sponsored by FIDSON Healthcare Ltd and Pharmatex Nig. PLC, demonstrating a collaborative effort between the hospital and private sector partners in promoting public health. In her response, Dr. Umeakuewulu warmly welcomed and appreciated the department for the awareness campaign and their dedication to patient care. She emphasized the dangers of malaria and the need for sustained public enlightenment, noting that the disease remains a serious threat to life in Africa. The CMD urged the public to take preventive measures seriously and to seek prompt medical attention at the hospital whenever symptoms arise, reaffirming COOUTH’s commitment to quality healthcare delivery and community health promotion.
