DR. UMEAKUEWULU RECEIVES NMA AWKA ZONE, ASSURES SWIFT RESPONSE TO DOCTORS’ CHALLENGES The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, on Thursday, 23rd April 2026, received members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Awka Zone, on a courtesy visit to her office. The delegation, led by the Zonal President, Dr. Dim Basil, congratulated the CMD on her well-deserved appointment and expressed their desire to familiarise and strengthen collaboration with her administration. Also present was Dr. Joy Okwumuo, President of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), COOUTH. During the visit, the NMA team highlighted key challenges affecting their members in the hospital, with particular emphasis on issues concerning resident doctors. They appreciated the opportunity to engage with the CMD and expressed confidence in her leadership to address the concerns raised and improve working conditions for doctors in the institution. In her response, Dr. Umeakuewulu warmly welcomed the delegation and appreciated their goodwill and support. She assured them of prompt attention to the issues raised, emphasizing her commitment to improving staff welfare and service delivery. The CMD further noted that the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, is committed to transforming the state into a livable and prosperous homeland, stressing that healthcare remains a critical pillar in achieving this vision, with COOUTH playing a central role. She called for collective effort and collaboration to move the hospital forward.
