DR. UMEAKUEWULU MEETS MEDICAL LABORATORY STAFF, PRIORITISES WELFARE AND QUALITY SERVICE DELIVERY The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, on Monday, 20th April 2026, held a strategic meeting with members of the Medical Laboratory Services Department of COOUTH. The department, led by the Head of Department, Mr. Okey Umeh, congratulated the CMD on her well-deserved appointment and expressed confidence in her leadership. He presented a comprehensive situation report of the department to the CMD and the management team, after which staff members were given the opportunity to highlight their individual challenges and suggest areas requiring attention to achieve holistic excellence in medical service delivery. In their various contributions, the staff appreciated the CMD for her openness and willingness to engage while drawing attention to critical areas that require intervention for improved efficiency and productivity within the department. They emphasized the need for enhanced support systems, improved working conditions, and strategic investments to strengthen laboratory services as a key pillar of quality healthcare delivery in the hospital. Responding, Dr. Umeakuewulu welcomed the staff and expressed gratitude to the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, for her appointment and continued support towards positioning COOUTH as a global centre of medical excellence. She assured the staff of her commitment to addressing the identified challenges head-on and stressed the importance of teamwork and collaboration in achieving set goals. The CMD further pledged to prioritise staff welfare, describing it as the bedrock of medical excellence. Other members of the management team present at the meeting included the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Nnaemeka Umedum; Deputy CMAC, Dr. Ifeoma Njelita; Head of Administration, Mrs. Chioma Ibekie; Head of Accounts, Mr. Wilson Ezeilo; Public Relations Officer, Agbai Henrietta; and Head of Internal Audit, Mrs. Uju Ejiofor, among others.
